Workshops for Change
Why do we need to practice ?
Our bodies and minds are plastic. This means that they change and adapt to whatever we do and how we think. In theory and within reason we can make the decision to change ourselves however we want. So for example, we can practice being happy, or we can practice being sad, and over time whatever our practice habit is, will appear more true to us and we will eventually embody the happy or the sad - and that will become a theme in our lives. We become what we practice - it’s as simple as that.
Choosing how to live
Of course it doesn’t really feel like that, it feels like we don’t have a choice in the matter. These workshops intend to help us see that that is not entirely true and we actually do have a choice about how our lives unfold. But the key is that we have to know that and we have to practice, on our own and with other people. It takes time and some awareness about how we each have come to organise ourselves to meet the world - In the workshops for change sessions we explore and learn how to do that in the company of others.
The four workshops in the series are designed to allow creative exploration, practice and discovery in the company of others. The themes offer participants a framework within which to practice, in order to help build a foundation for well being. The workshops are all similar, but different and each one informs and supports the others. They can be taken as a series, individually or repeated - because (hopefully) we never stop learning.
It’s hard to change on your own
We probably all instinctively know, changing old patterns of behaviour and transforming limiting beliefs is not so easy - especially on our own.
Together, we aim to practice how to cultivate a capacity for mindfulness and curiosity in order to bear witness ourselves. We reflect and share, and do it again. We begin to notice more clearly when we open and when we close, and then we realise we have a choice in that matter - we can then use the capacity of agency to open into a place of safety and creativity, and in this way we can feel more balanced, resilient and whole.
